- 1½ cups granulated sugar

- Optional: 1 teaspoon brewed coffee, ½ cup bittersweet chocolate disks
- For the Salted Caramel Sauce:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
- ½ cup heavy cream, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon Maldon Sea Salt Flakes (or to taste)
Instructions
- Prepare the Brownie Base:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt butter. Stir in sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and optional brewed coffee until smooth.
- Gradually fold in cocoa powder, flour, and salt until combined.
- Spread half the brownie batter evenly in the prepared dish and set aside.
- Make the Salted Caramel Sauce:
- Heat sugar in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring until it melts into a golden amber color (about 5–8 minutes).
- Remove from heat and carefully stir in butter until fully incorporated.
- Slowly add heavy cream, stirring continuously. Mix in sea salt and let cool slightly.
- Assemble the Brownies:
- Pour a layer of salted caramel sauce over the brownie batter. Top with the remaining brownie batter, spreading it carefully.
- Bake and Cool:
- Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
- Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan for about 1 hour before slicing.
